Texas Roadhouse Copycat Green BeansÂ đŸ„“đŸŒ±

Bring home that smoky, savory flavor with these slow-simmered green beans—just like the restaurant’s famous side dish!

Prep Time: 5 mins | Cook Time: 1.5–2 hrs (or 20 mins quick method) | Total Time: Up to 2 hrs

Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) fresh green beans, trimmed (or 2 cans, drained)
  • 4 cups chicken broth (or water + 2 bouillon cubes)
  • 6 slices bacon, chopped (or 2 tbsp bacon grease)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • œ tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tbsp butter (optional, for richness)
  • œ tsp sugar (balances acidity)

(Optional: œ tsp crushed red pepper for heat, 1 tsp apple cider vinegar for tang)

Instructions

Slow-Cooked Method (Best Flavor):

  1. Cook the bacon: In a pot, fry chopped bacon until crispy. Remove bacon, leave 2 tbsp grease in the pot.
  2. Sauté aromatics: Add onion and garlic to the bacon grease; cook 2 mins until soft.
  3. Simmer the beans: Add green beans, broth, pepper, salt, and sugar. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low.
  4. Cover and cook for 1.5–2 hours, stirring occasionally, until beans are very tender and broth reduces.
  5. Finish: Stir in butter and reserved bacon. Serve with extra bacon on top.

Quick Method (20 mins):

  1. Sauté bacon, onion, and garlic as above.
  2. Add canned green beans (drained) and 1 cup broth. Simmer uncovered 15-20 mins until flavorful.

Pro Tips

✔ Extra smoky? Add œ tsp liquid smoke with the broth.
✔ Crispier bacon: Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15 mins instead of frying.
✔ Vegetarian version: Omit bacon, use 1 tbsp smoked paprika + olive oil.

Serving Ideas

  • đŸ„© Pair with grilled steak or fried chicken.
  • đŸ„” Serve alongside mashed potatoes for a full Roadhouse experience.
  • 🍞 Soak up juices with buttery rolls.

These green beans are addictively savory with a touch of sweetness—just like the original! Let me know if you’d like adjustments (spicier, keto, etc.). 😊

(Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat with a splash of broth!)
