Smoked Honey BBQ Chicken Wings

Fall-off-the-bone tender with a sticky-sweet glaze and kiss of smoky flavor—perfect for game day or backyard BBQs!


📝 Ingredients

For the Wings

  • 2 lbs (900g) chicken wings, split (or drumettes)

  • 1 tbsp baking powder (for ultra-crispy skin!)

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

For the Honey BBQ Glaze

  • ½ cup BBQ sauce (store-bought or homemade)

  • ¼ cup honey

  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard

  • ½ tsp chipotle powder (optional, for heat)

For Smoking

  • Wood chips (hickory, applewood, or cherry)


🔥 Instructions

1. Prep the Wings

  1. Pat wings very dry with paper towels.

  2. Toss with baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.

  3. Refrigerate uncovered for 1 hour (dries skin for crispiness).

2. Smoke

  1. Preheat smoker to 225°F (107°C). Add wood chips.

  2. Smoke wings 1.5–2 hours until internal temp reaches 165°F (74°C).

3. Glaze & Finish

  1. Whisk all glaze ingredients in a saucepan. Simmer 5 mins until thickened.

  2. Toss smoked wings in glaze (or brush on for less mess).

  3. Optional crisp-up: Broil or grill glazed wings 2-3 mins per side.


💡 Pro Tips

✔ No smoker? Use a grill with indirect heat + wood chips in foil.
✔ Extra crispy: After smoking, bake at 400°F (200°C) for 10 mins.
✔ Sticky glaze secret: Add 1 tbsp butter to the sauce for shine.

  • Drizzle with extra honey and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

  • Cooling dip: Ranch or blue cheese dressing.

  • Pair with: Cornbread, coleslaw, or pickled veggies.
