For the Beef & Gravy:
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20 for best flavor)
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1½ cups (360ml) beef broth (low-sodium preferred)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp soy sauce (optional, for depth)
- ½ tsp dried thyme
- ½ tsp black pepper
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)
(Optional: ½ cup sliced mushrooms or a splash of red wine for extra flavor!)
Instructions
1. Make the Mashed Potatoes:
- Boil potatoes in salted water until fork-tender (~15 mins). Drain well.
- Mash with butter, warm milk, salt, and pepper until smooth. Cover and keep warm.
2. Cook the Beef & Gravy:
- In a large skillet, brown ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it into crumbles. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add onion and garlic; cook 2-3 mins until softened.
- Sprinkle flour over the beef and stir for 1 min to cook off the raw taste.
- Slowly pour in beef broth, Worcestershire, soy sauce, thyme, and pepper. Stir well.
- Simmer 5-7 mins, stirring occasionally, until gravy thickens. Taste and adjust salt.
3. Serve:
- Spoon creamy mashed potatoes onto plates and top with the beef gravy.
- Garnish with fresh parsley.
