Fluffy Homemade Dinner Rolls

Buttery, soft, and perfect for holidays, weeknights, or any meal!


Ingredients (Makes 12 rolls):

  • 3 ¼ cups (405g) all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)

  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) instant yeast

  • ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 cup (240ml) warm milk (110°F/45°C)

  • 1 large egg, room temperature

  • ¼ cup (60g) unsalted butter, melted (+ 2 tbsp for brushing)

Optional:

  • 1 tbsp honey (added with milk)

  • 1 tsp garlic powder + chopped parsley (for savory rolls)


Instructions:

1. Make the Dough:

  1. In a bowl, whisk 1 cup flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.

  2. Add warm milk, egg, and melted butter. Mix until smooth.

  3. Gradually add remaining flour until a soft dough forms (slightly sticky is okay).

2. Knead & Rise:

  1. Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 mins until elastic (or use a stand mixer with a dough hook).

  2. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1-2 hours until doubled.

3. Shape & Second Rise:

  1. Punch down dough and divide into 12 equal balls.

  2. Arrange in a greased 9×13-inch pan, cover, and rise for 30-45 mins until puffy.

4. Bake:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Bake for 18-22 mins until golden. Brush with melted butter right after baking.

🌿 Herb Butter: Mix melted butter with garlic, rosemary, or parsley for extra flavor.
🍯 Sweet Variation: Swap sugar for honey and add cinnamon swirls.
🧊 Make Ahead: Freeze unbaked rolls after shaping; thaw and rise before baking.

Serve warm with extra butter or jam—these disappear fast!
