Dorito Taco Salad

Posted on July 29, 2025

Crunchy, cheesy, and packed with taco flavor—just like your favorite lunch order, but homemade!

🍽️ Ingredients *(Serves 6-8)*

  • 1 large bag (10.5 oz) Doritos (Nacho Cheese flavor), lightly crushed

  • 1 lb lean ground beef (or turkey/chicken)

  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or 2 tbsp homemade blend: chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, paprika)

  • 1 red onion, diced

  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1 head iceberg or romaine lettuce, finely shredded

  • 6 ripe tomatoes, chopped

  • Optional Add-Ins:

    • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained

    • 1 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt

    • 1 avocado, diced

    • ½ cup sliced black olives

    • ½ cup salsa or taco sauce

👩‍🍳 Instructions (Ready in 20 mins!)

1️⃣ Brown the Meat: Cook ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain excess fat, then stir in taco seasoning + ¼ cup water. Simmer 5 mins. Let cool slightly.

2️⃣ Prep Veggies: Chop lettuce, tomatoes, and onion. Lightly crush Doritos in the bag (leave some big pieces for crunch!).

3️⃣ Assemble Salad: In a large bowl (or trifle dish for layers!), combine:

  • Shredded lettuce

  • Seasoned beef

  • Diced tomatoes

  • Red onion

  • Shredded cheese

  • Crushed Doritos (add just before serving to keep them crunchy!)

4️⃣ Add Extras: Top with optional beans, avocado, olives, or a dollop of sour cream.

5️⃣ Serve Immediately: Toss gently or let everyone layer their own bowls. Pass around salsa or hot sauce!

💡 Pro Tips

✅ Keep it crispy: Store leftover salad (without chips) in the fridge; add fresh Doritos when serving.
✅ Shortcut: Use pre-shredded lettuce and pre-cooked taco meat for faster prep.
✅ Vegetarian? Swap beef for plant-based crumbles or extra beans.

🍽️ Serving Ideas

  • Game Day Version: Serve in individual bags of Doritos (eat straight from the bag!).

  • Lighter Twist: Swap half the chips for baked tortilla strips.

  • Kid-Friendly: Skip the onions and add extra cheese.

“All the fun of taco night in one irresistible salad!” 😋

Storage: Best eaten fresh, but undressed leftovers keep 1 day in the fridge (without chips).
