Dolly’s Chicken and Stuffing Casserole

A comforting, creamy, and easy-to-make casserole inspired by Dolly Parton’s down-home cooking!


📝 Ingredients

For the Casserole

  • 3 cups cooked chicken, shredded or diced (rotisserie chicken works great!)

  • 1 box (6 oz) stuffing mix (like Stove Top—chicken or herb flavor)

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup (or mushroom/celery for variation)

  • 1 cup sour cream (or Greek yogurt for lightness)

  • ½ cup chicken broth

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp dried thyme

  • Salt & pepper to taste

Optional Add-Ins

  • 1 cup frozen mixed veggies (peas, carrots, corn)

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • ½ cup crispy fried onions (for topping)


👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prep the Stuffing

  • Prepare the stuffing mix according to package directions (usually involves butter + water). Set aside.

2. Mix the Chicken Layer

  • In a bowl, combine chicken, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, broth, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, salt, and pepper.

  • Stir in veggies or cheese if using.

3. Assemble the Casserole

  • Spread the chicken mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.

  • Top evenly with the prepared stuffing mix.

  • (Optional) Sprinkle with extra cheese or fried onions.

4. Bake

  • Cover with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20 mins.

  • Uncover and bake 10-15 mins more until bubbly and golden on top.

✔ Make ahead: Assemble (unbaked) and refrigerate overnight. Add 5-10 mins to baking time.
✔ Lighter version: Use low-sodium soup, light sour cream, and whole-grain stuffing.
✔ Crispy topping: Broil for 1-2 mins at the end for extra crunch.
