Creamy Mille-Feuille in Glasses (Individual Napoleon Dessert)

Layers of crisp puff pastry, velvety custard, and whipped cream—elegantly stacked in a glass for a stunning (and easy!) twist on the classic French dessert. 🍰✨


📝 INGREDIENTS (Serves 4)

For the Layers:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, baked & crushed into crumbs (or use store-bought mille-feuille biscuits)

  • 2 cups (500ml) vanilla pastry cream (see quick recipe below)

  • 1 cup (250ml) whipped cream (sweetened with 1 tbsp powdered sugar)

  • Fresh berries (strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries)

  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Quick Pastry Cream:

  • 1 ½ cups (375ml) whole milk

  • 3 egg yolks

  • ¼ cup (50g) sugar

  • 2 tbsp cornstarch

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract


👩‍🍳 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

1️⃣ Bake & Prep:

  • Bake puff pastry at 400°F (200°C) until golden (~15 mins). Cool, then crush into coarse crumbs.

  • (Shortcut: Use store-bought mille-feuille or phyllo pastry strips.)

2️⃣ Make Pastry Cream:

  • Whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch in a bowl.

  • Heat milk until steaming, then slowly pour into yolk mixture while whisking.

  • Return to heat and stir until thick (2–3 mins). Add vanilla. Chill.

3️⃣ Layer in Glasses:

  1. Bottom layer: Puff pastry crumbs

  2. Second layer: Vanilla pastry cream

  3. Third layer: Whipped cream

  4. Repeat, ending with crumbs & berries on top.

4️⃣ Chill & Serve:

  • Refrigerate 1 hour before serving. Dust with powdered sugar.


💡 PRO TIPS

✔ For crunch: Add a layer of caramelized nuts or feuilletine flakes.
✔ Adult version: Drizzle with Grand Marnier or raspberry liqueur.
✔ Make ahead: Assemble up to 4 hours in advance.

  • Garnish with edible flowers or gold leaf for special occasions.
