½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter, softened

½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar

½ cup (110 g) packed brown sugar

1 large egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 ½ cups (190 g) all-purpose flour

½ tsp baking soda

¼ tsp salt

1 cup (170 g) chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Cream butter + sugars in a bowl until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).

Add the egg and vanilla, mix until combined.

In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt.

Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until just combined.

Fold in chocolate chips (and nuts if using).

Scoop dough into tablespoon-sized balls and place on baking sheet.

Bake 9–11 minutes until edges are lightly golden (centers may look soft — that’s good!).
