1 tbsp (12g) baking powder
-
½ tsp salt
-
½ tsp garlic powder (optional, but tasty!)

1½ cups (150g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
-
1 cup (240ml) milk (whole or buttermilk for extra richness)
-
1 egg (optional, for added richness and structure)
-
2 tbsp (30g) melted butter or oil (optional, for moisture)
*(Optional add-ins: 2 tbsp chopped chives, ¼ tsp smoked paprika, or cooked bacon bits!)*
Instructions
1. Prep & Mix
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.

-
Stir in cheddar cheese (and any add-ins like chives).
-
In another bowl, mix milk + egg + melted butter (if using).
-
Pour wet ingredients into dry, stirring until just combined (don’t overmix—batter will be thick).
2. Bake
-
Transfer batter to the loaf pan. Smooth the top.
-
Bake 40-45 mins until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
-
Let cool 10 mins in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack.
3. Serve Warm!
-
Slice and enjoy with soup, chili, or butter.
Tips
🧈 Extra richness: Brush the top with melted butter after baking.
🔥 Crispy edges: Bake in a cast-iron skillet instead of a loaf pan.
🌶 Spicy kick: Add diced jalapeños or a pinch of cayenne.
🕒 Storage: Keeps for 2 days at room temp or freeze for up to 1 month.
Perfect for last-minute guests or cozy nights in! 😊
(Try it toasted with a smear of garlic herb butter!)
