Broken Glass Jello (Stained Glass Gelatin Dessert)

Posted on July 1, 2025

A dazzling, no-bake layered gelatin dessert that looks like colorful stained glass! Perfect for parties, holidays, or a fun retro treat.

Ingredients

For the Colored Gelatin Layers:

  • 4 small boxes (3 oz each) of different flavored/colored Jello (e.g., strawberry, lime, blue raspberry, lemon)

  • 1 cup boiling water per flavor

  • 1 cup cold water per flavor

For the Clear Gelatin Layer:

  • 2 packets (0.25 oz each) unflavored gelatin (like Knox)

  • 2 cups cold water (divided)

  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

1. Make the Colored Gelatin Layers

  • Prepare each Jello flavor separately: Dissolve one box in 1 cup boiling water, then stir in 1 cup cold water.

  • Pour each flavor into a separate square or rectangular dish (8×8-inch works well).

  • Chill for 4+ hours or overnight until fully set.

2. Cut into “Broken Glass” Cubes

  • Once firm, cut each colored gelatin into small cubes (about ½-inch).

  • Gently mix cubes in a large bowl.

3. Prepare the Clear Gelatin Layer

  • Sprinkle unflavored gelatin over ½ cup cold water in a bowl. Let bloom for 5 mins.

  • Heat 1 ½ cups water until steaming (not boiling), then whisk in bloomed gelatin until dissolved.

  • Stir in sweetened condensed milk and vanilla (if using). Let cool slightly (10 mins).

4. Assemble the Dessert

  • Place mixed Jello cubes into a 9×13-inch dish (or decorative mold).

  • Slowly pour the cooled milk mixture over the cubes, filling gaps.

  • Chill for 4+ hours or overnight until fully set.

5. Slice & Serve

  • Cut into squares or shapes to reveal the “stained glass” effect!

Tips for Success

✨ Use contrasting colors (like red, green, blue, and yellow) for the best effect.
✨ Chill each layer thoroughly to prevent colors bleeding.
✨ For a boozy twist, replace some cold water with vodka (adults only!).
✨ Make it vegan with agar-agar and coconut milk instead of gelatin and condensed milk.

This dessert is vibrant, jiggly, and nostalgic—kids and adults will love it!
