Apple Crumb Pie

Ingredients:

Pie Base:

  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (store-bought or homemade)

Apple Filling:

  • 6 cups peeled, sliced apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or mix)

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • ¼ cup brown sugar

  • 1 ½ tsp cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp nutmeg

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (for thickening)

Crumb Topping:

  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour

  • ⅓ cup brown sugar

  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes


🔪 Instructions:

1. Preheat Oven:

Preheat to 375°F (190°C). Place a baking sheet on the bottom rack to catch any drips.

2. Make the Filling:

In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and flour. Set aside to let juices develop.

3. Make the Crumb Topping:

In another bowl, combine flour, both sugars, and cinnamon. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

4. Assemble the Pie:

  • Place the pie crust in a 9-inch pie plate.

  • Pour apple filling into the crust, mounding slightly in the center.

  • Sprinkle crumb topping evenly over the apples.

5. Bake:

  • Bake for 50–60 minutes, until the topping is golden and the filling is bubbly.

  • If the crust or topping starts browning too quickly, loosely tent with foil in the last 15–20 minutes.

6. Cool:

Let cool for at least 2 hours to allow the filling to set before slicing.
