Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Twists 🍫🌀

A fun, flaky twist on classic cookie dough! These buttery, sugar-dusted pastry spirals are stuffed with edible cookie dough and chocolate chips—perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

For the Cookie Dough Filling:

  • ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup (100g) brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk (or heavy cream)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ž cup (95g) all-purpose flour (heat-treated*)
  • Âź tsp salt
  • ½ cup (90g) mini chocolate chips

For the Pastry Twists:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 2 tbsp coarse sugar (for sprinkling)

(Heat-treat flour: Microwave on high for 1 min, stirring every 15 sec, until 160°F/71°C.)*


Instructions

1. Make the Edible Cookie Dough:

  1. Beat butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until fluffy.
  2. Mix in milk and vanilla.
  3. Stir in heat-treated flour and salt, then fold in chocolate chips. Chill 15 mins.

2. Assemble the Twists:

  1. Roll out puff pastry into a 10×12-inch rectangle.
  2. Spread cookie dough evenly over half the pastry (lengthwise). Fold the other half over, sealing edges.
  3. Cut into 12 strips. Twist each strip 3-4 times, then place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

3. Bake & Serve:

  1. Brush twists with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
  2. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 12-15 mins until golden.
  3. Cool slightly—drizzle with melted chocolate if desired!

Pro Tips

✔ Keep dough cold for easier twisting.
✔ No puff pastry? Use crescent roll dough (unrolled and pressed into a sheet).
✔ Extra gooey: Add a chocolate chunk to the center of each twist before baking.
