Posted on May 4, 2025

5-Minute Water & Flour Pie Dough 🥧⏱️

Just 4 ingredients! This ultra-simple, no-fail dough is soft, pliable, and perfect for both sweet and savory pies.

Ingredients (Makes 1 large crust or 2 small pie crusts)

  • 240ml (1 cup) boiling water

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 4 tbsp (60ml) sunflower oil (or any neutral oil)

  • 500g (4 cups) all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting

(Optional: 1 tbsp sugar for sweet pies, or 1 tsp herbs for savory.)

Instructions

1. Make the Dough

  1. In a large bowl, mix boiling water + salt + oil until combined.

  2. Gradually add flour, stirring with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.

  3. Knead lightly for 1-2 minutes until smooth (add a sprinkle of flour if sticky).

2. Roll & Use Immediately

  • No chilling needed! Roll out on a floured surface for:

    • Single-crust pies (press into pie dish, fill, and bake).

    • Hand pies/empanadas (cut circles, fill, and seal).

    • Flatbreads (cook in a dry skillet until puffed).

3. Baking Tips

  • Pre-bake (blind bake): Prick crust with a fork, bake at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 mins before filling.

  • For golden crust: Brush with egg wash or milk before baking.

Why This Works

🔥 Hot water gelatinizes the flour, making the dough flexible yet sturdy.
⏳ No resting time: Use right away—no shrinkage!
🌱 Vegan-friendly: No butter or eggs needed.

Perfect for:

  • Fruit pies (apple, cherry)

  • Savory pies (quiche, pot pie)

  • Fried doughs (samosas, dumplings)

(Storage: Wrap tightly in plastic; keeps in the fridge for 2 days or freeze for 1 month.)

A game-changer for last-minute pies! 😍
