Here’s a step-by-step detailed recip for making crispy, gooey Cheesy Mozzarella-Stuffed Onion Rings 🧅🧀🍟

🧅🧀 Cheesy Mozzarella-Stuffed Onion Rings

Ingredients:

  • 2 large onions (white or yellow, firm ones work best)
  • 8–10 mozzarella cheese sticks (string cheese) or block mozzarella cut into sticks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs (beaten)
  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs (for extra crunch; regular breadcrumbs also work)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional for color & flavor)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Vegetable oil (for deep frying)
  • Fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)
  • Marinara sauce or ranch (for dipping)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Onion Rings

  1. Peel onions and slice them into ½-inch thick rings.
  2. Separate the layers and pick out pairs of rings—one slightly larger, one smaller—to create a “cheese pocket.”

2. Add the Cheese

  1. Cut mozzarella sticks to fit inside the smaller onion rings.
  2. Place cheese inside the smaller ring.
  3. Cover with the larger ring, creating a sealed cheese-onion ring sandwich.

3. Coat the Rings

  1. Set up a dredging station:
    • Bowl 1: Flour (seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika).
    • Bowl 2: Beaten eggs.
    • Bowl 3: Panko breadcrumbs.
  2. Dip each stuffed onion ring:
    • First into flour (shake off excess).
    • Then into egg wash.
    • Then into breadcrumbs.
  3. For extra crunch & better sealing: repeat egg + breadcrumb step again.

4. Freeze Before Frying

  • Place coated rings on a tray lined with parchment paper.
  • Freeze for at least 1 hour (this prevents cheese from leaking out during frying).

5. Fry the Rings

  1. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Fry onion rings in small batches until golden brown & crispy (about 2–3 minutes).
  3. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

6. Serve

  • Garnish with fresh parsley.
  • Serve hot with marinara sauce, ranch, or garlic aioli for dipping.

Tips for Success

✅ Freezing is the secret—don’t skip it.
✅ Use panko breadcrumbs for maximum crunch.
✅ For extra flavor, mix Parmesan cheese into breadcrumbs.
✅ You can bake them (at 425°F / 220°C for 15–18 min) or air fry (at 390°F / 200°C for 8–10 min) for a lighter version.

Would you like me to also give you a spicy version (with chili flakes & hot sauce dip), or keep it classic?
